I had my tank pumped out last week. Is it possible that it's full already? |
Not only is it possible,
it's necessary. Septic tanks are designed to operate full for
proper water/solid separation. When the level in your tank
rises and reaches the outflow pipe, liquids continue through the
pipes out to the absorption area. |
|
|
How often should I get my tank/cesspool pumped out? |
The number of years between
pumpings can vary depending on several factors. Some of these
factors include: the size of the tank/cesspool, the number of
people living in the home and an increased usage of household
chemicals (such as disinfectants, bleaches, drain openers,
etc.). In-home businesses such as daycares or beauty salons
should be pumped more often than a typical residential
system. We will be happy to work out a pumping schedule to
best suit your family's needs. |
|
|
Is there anything I can put in my tank to avoid pumping? |
No. Some of the
material in your septic tank is not biodegradable. This
material must be pumped out. |
|
|
My system backed up recently for the first time in many years. Why should I start maintaining it now? |
Even though broken pipes may
have caused the backup, tree roots intruding into your lines or
some other obstruction, it is possible that this backup is the
first sign of system failure. |
|
|
The drainage in my house seems to be sluggish and sometimes temporarily backs up. I also sometimes have a foul odor and mushy ground in my backyard. Are these signs of septic system failure? |
These may or may not be
signs of a deteriorating septic system. Have a septic
specialist evaluate the symptoms immediately. |
|
|
Why did my tank have to be pumped through the manhole access and not through the white pipes sticking up in my yard? |
The white pipes in your yard
are called Inlet and/or Outlet Inspection Ports. Pumping out
of these ports could damage or completely knock off your baffles
located in these ports. Your baffles are a very important
part of your septic tank. Also by pumping through these
inspection ports it does not allow a thorough inspection of the
tank or complete removal of sludge on the sides/bottom of the
tank. |
|
|
Why is backflushing so important when pumping my tank? |
Backflushing is the only way
to stir up the sludge matter on the bottom of the tank. This
sludge is why you need to have your septic tank cleaned.
Backflushing liquefies the sludge so we can pump it out
completely. |
|
|
Where can I find the manhole access lid? |
Because manufacturing and
installations vary, please call the office and we will help you
locate it. |
|
|
How can I pay for my bill? |
